I fully appreciate that how much a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney will cost is fundamental when deciding how you want to proceed.
When I was in practice, the most common statement I heard was ‘My Will is very simple, so shouldn’t cost a lot.’ That can still be true, but perhaps not to the extent it once was. Families are more complicated than they ever were, and with remarriages, step-children etc, it is vital that each relationship – and the effect it might have on your estate - is properly considered. It’s only when all information is available that I can give the best advice.
I can say that the base cost for Wills is £100 – no VAT is chargeable. Once I have all the information I need, I will discuss pricing with you.
For Lasting Powers of Attorney, the cost is £150 per power. If I put multiple powers in place, there is a reduction, so two would be £250, four would be £400. There is also a registration fee charged by the Office of the Public Guardian, but this is calculated based on income, so may differ from person to person.
I will come to see you at your home, as long as it is no more than 20 miles from where I am based (Hemingfield, South Yorkshire) at no charge. If the distance is greater, I am flexible, so happy to discuss things. Any additional charge would only be in relation to fuel, not my time.
I will provide you with terms and conditions of business and need these to be signed before I can start working on your matter.
My research shows that high street solicitors can charge as much as £1,000 for a single Will and a single Power of Attorney. I don’t have their overheads, so can set my prices at what I hope is an affordable level. My work is fully insured.
